Celebration: Autobiography

Autobiography

Autobiography kicked off a practice that The MVM has indulged in ever since: the marathon field recording. At its most obscene, this practice resulted in Une Fleuve Maudit.

For Autobiography Duke wore a microphone for a 24 hour period, changing mini-discs every couple hours. We then transferred all of the audio from mini-disc to hard disk. Once in ProTools we connected all 24 hours of his life and compressed them down into a single hour; in so doing allowing the listener to step back in time and experience that moment of Duke's life. Of course, not consciously. But it is folly to underestimate the abilities of our senses and our other-than-conscious mind. We perceive far less than we receive. But let's not get in to The MVM's belief systems here.

We forget where the seven copies of Autobiography went.
